After You Move
I haven't delivered a baby yet, but I did once wash a client's clothes after her power went out during a storm. Even my husband Ron said that was a little over the top (after he had driven through the ice to pick them up), but it makes the point: Our aim at TeamSOLD is to win you as a life-long client and friend, and the part of our mission statement that says "Service" doesn't stop at recordation. (Many people don't realize it, but that's when title actually transfers to the new buyer, not at closing. Recordation is accomplished at the county court house by the closing attorney, and it usually occurs later the same day, or early the next. Unless closing is late Friday afternoon, and we don't like to schedule them then for obvious reasons.)
- Professional Services
While unpacking, your thoughts may turn to a family counselor or attorney! We hope it's a passing thing, but if not, we know a couple of good ones and can put you in touch. Ditto down the road a bit when you begin looking for dentists, family doctors, vets , handypersons, decorators, painters-whatever. We've gotten to know a lot of each in the course of helping them to buy or sell homes, and we make it our business to learn the skinny on many more we haven't met.
A word about vets: N.C. State University is home to one of the nation's top two or three Schools of Veterinary Medicine, and in their teaching hospital they treat both large and small animals with the care and concern you would want if you were the patient. (Their operating rooms for horses are something to behold.) That school naturally turns out many of our local vets, and we'll be happy to put you in touch with one of them.
- Shopping and Restaurants
Where to shop for… Remember, we've lived here a long time and probably know immediately some of the best places to find whatever at a good price. Pick up the phone and ask us. The same goes for restaurants. Our schedule is such that we probably go out to eat more evenings than we cook, and we've enjoyed many restaurants throughout the area. If it's Northern Italian you crave, or Indian, we'd be happy to point you in a good direction.
- Property Questions
It doesn't happen often, but even years later if you should encounter problems with lot lines, where a fence is or can go, who is responsible if your tree limb falls and hits the neighbor's car, where's the access to the septic tank, who installed the heat pump, is the stove still under warranty? You get the idea. If you can't discern the answers from your files, call us. We are required to keep ours for ten years, and we would even if the rules didn't require it. We can help. It's all in the file.
- Schools
We will have advised you how to check out the local school systems,
probably in our first conversation. Some people pick location based on a particular school, and later on encounter reassignment problems. It's something we, and families all over the country, must deal with. But in general, you can rest assured about schools when you move here: From elementary through high school, Wake County rates among the best in the nation. There are also numerous highly-rated
private schools here, including Ravenscroft and Cary Academy. We'd be happy to tell you more about them and put you in touch. However, as you will no doubt assume, they are not cheap.
- Hospitals
As we discussed elsewhere, there are three world-class hospitals here-Duke, UNC and Wake. We personally prefer Raleigh Community Hospital because of its smaller size, or nearby Rex, and our experience has been that both offer first-rate care. We hope you never require hospitalization, but if you should, we'd be happy to discuss our experiences in detail and we invite you to call us.
- Places of Worship
Religion is a highly personal matter and we don't generally delve into it unless specifically asked about a particular congregation, and then we urge you to consult the appropriate spiritual advisor at that location who can tell you much more about his or her members than we ever could. What we can, and will be happy to do is tell you about some of the options available to meet your needs. We have many religious campuses located conveniently throughout the Research Triangle Park area, and they come in all shapes, sizes and theological permutations.
The thing to remember is, we don't just list and sell houses in some kind of vacuum here. This is our home, many of us since birth. We know the place inside and out. We love the Triangle, and we love talking about it. And we think of you, as you will come to know, as an important part of our extended real estate family. Unless you tell us to stop, you'll hear from us regularly, through both snail and email, and occasionally by telephone, if only to see how you are getting along.
And we at TeamSold in turn hope you feel the same way about keeping in touch with us. That's what friends and neighbors do. Welcome to a wonderful place to live, grow and thrive!
